Nancy Guthrie remains missing as new evidence raises fresh questions about how her case was handled.
Retired law enforcement experts have criticized the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, arguing that basic crime-scene procedures were ignored and that early missteps may have compromised crucial evidence.
The 84-year-old mom of NBC anchor Savannah Guthrie was last seen at her Tucson, Arizona, home on February 1 and forensic specialists have weighed in on her case. Speaking publicly about the case, retired NYPD Sergeant Joseph Giacalone did not hold back. It comes after a criminal attorney revealed the 6 huge red flags in Nancy’s case that “don’t add up.”

“My thing from the beginning was, if this thing had been my case, if I had been the supervisor on this, you find out that a crime has happened, you secure not only the home, but the surrounding properties, you cordon off the whole thing. You park your TH vehicle, your Temporary Headquarters vehicle, right in the driveway. Everybody who comes through the crime scene has to go through that TH vehicle… It’s been a joke.”

Giacalone also slammed the sheer number of people allowed to enter the property in the critical hours after Nancy’s disappearance, noting that casual visitors like “pool guys” and “pizza delivery” had access to the home.
Forensic death investigator Joe Scott Morgan, host of the podcast Body Bags, echoed these concerns. “You’ve got utter chaos. Here’s the thing: this is where pride comes in, with people being capable. There have been many times I’ve had to swallow my pride because I’ve been out of my depth.”
He continued, “If you cannot step outside yourself and say, ‘I’m out of my depth,’ as far as technology goes and how to utilize it, we have a problem, because part of being a public servant is being humble, and you need to step back and call somebody else, but say, ‘We’re going to keep it secured until then, keep it locked down,’ but that didn’t happen… it irritates me.”

Authorities continue to investigate Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance with active involvement from the FBI and local Tucson police. New footage has emerged showing a masked individual near her home the night she vanished, alongside additional video capturing a vehicle in the vicinity around the same time.
Physical evidence, including gloves found near the property, has been collected and tested for DNA, but no matches have yet been made to known profiles.
Law enforcement is now reportedly turning to genealogical databases in an effort to generate leads. Meanwhile, the Guthrie family has offered up to $1 million for information leading to Nancy’s safe return, supplementing a separate reward offered by the FBI. Savannah Guthrie has also made emotional public pleas, urging anyone with knowledge to come forward.
